Herbal Steaming in Traditional Vietnamese Medicine

from $20.00

This workshop will be taking place on Sunday, February 9, 2025 from 3pm-5pm as part of Cha Cha Festival at WSA (161 Water Street). Open to ages 8+ and encouraged for elders, parents, aunties, and uncles.

In the spirit of the wood snake’s embrace of renewal, we will fortify our minds and bodies with herbal steaming as a form of community care. Join Phoebe as she shares her research in traditional Vietnamese medicine and the ways in which it is founded on the belief system that everyone can and should learn practical ways of healing themselves.

Herbal steams, known as “xông hơi” in Vietnamese, were a culturally important and effective way of treating all manner of ailments and alleviating body aches. In this workshop, attendees will partake in a facial steam with medicinal herbs and walk away with the herbs and knowledge to prepare their own full-body steam at home.

***Please prepare to wear light layers underneath your winter clothes as the steam can create a mini sauna underneath your sheet. Participants are asked to bring their own vessel for steaming – ideally a 3-quart stainless/wooden bowl or pot with handles.
